Progressing Social Enterprise

Feast Over Famine has spent years navigating and serving in the For-Profit, Non-Profit and Social Enterprise sectors. As we have wrestled with the tensions of profit and mission over this time, we have developed several models, theories, and philosophies on how we can best navigate this space. We definitely do not have all of the answers to this puzzle, but we are hoping to do our part.

We define Social Enterprise as a utilization of the global economic marketplace for social good. Although definitions vary, we work across the Social Enterprise, Business for Transformation (B4T), and Business As Mission (BAM) sectors.

We view Social Enterprise as an opportunity to blend the best that the For-Profit and Non-Profit worlds have to offer. We want to see the heart and impact of the Non-Profit sector thrive. We also desire to see the organizational management and fiscal self-sustainability of the For-Profit world to have its impact on the servant-hearted world.

Our approach to Social Enterprise is one that is “Entity Agnostic.” We believe that a Social Enterprise can exist at any point along the spectrum below and seek to be as creative as possible to bring that to life in any organization. From a farm in Africa to a Non-Profit with a small earned income stream, all the way to companies like Patagonia; we work with and support them all. No matter what type of organization or business you have, you can make an impact in the world.

Stakeholders

We believe that there are countless Stakeholders that make up the Global Social Enterprise Ecosystem, and each of them has a unique value proposition to bring to the success story of any project or organization. Our goal is to bring this entire ecosystem to a common table, with a common language, where they can build partnerships and contribute to the mutual success of everyone involved.

Feast Over Famine has intentionally designed our organization to be a hub and a connector in this Social Enterprise space.

Interest, Understand, Engage, Inspire

As we seek to serve each of the Stakeholders we have outlined, we recognize that each individual or organization is entering into this journey at a different point.

Feast Over Famine’s goal is to create an environment that is safe and collaborative for anyone entering into this ecosystem.

Our content and work has four goals in this space:

  1. Allow for those just becoming interested to explore safely.

  2. Help Stakeholders gain a deeper understanding of the Social Enterprise and strategic scaling landscape.

  3. Provide real opportunities and make authentic connections for Stakeholders to take their passion to a level of engagement.

  4. Inspire those deeply engaged in this world to re-invest their knowledge in Stakeholders that are new to this space. Let’s create an army, not a village.
